The University of Ibadan Medical Students’ Association (UIMSA) held its annual track and field events yesterday, June 12, 2025, at the New UI Stadium. Although the event was originally scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM, it eventually kicked off at approximately 2:55 PM.
Athletes from the 2K21, 2K23, 2K24, 2K25, 2K26, and 2K27 classes participated in various athletic contests. Events included sprints (100m, 200m, 400m), middle-distance races (800m, 1500m), and relays (4x100m and 4x400m) for both male and female categories. Field events such as long jump, shot put, and javelin throw also featured prominently. Notably, the 2K26 and 2K27 classes delivered outstanding performances, dominating multiple events and securing a significant number of medals.
At the end of the day’s events, the 2K26 class emerged overall champions with an impressive total of 16 medals. They were closely followed by the 2K27 class, who secured second place with 15 medals. The 2K25 class claimed third position with 7 medals, while the 2K24 class finished fourth with 6. The 2K21 class placed fifth with 4 medals, and the 2K23 class rounded out the standings in sixth place with 3 medals.
The track and field competition marks the penultimate event in UIMSA’s week-long lineup of activities, setting the stage for the grand finale— the Awards and Dinner Night scheduled for tomorrow, June 14th.
The event officially concluded with a medal presentation ceremony, which took place a few minutes before 7:00 PM.
