UI SU Holds Town Hall Meeting With Student Leaders, Sets Plans for Congress

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union Executive Council, on Wednesday, May 1, held a town hall meeting that brought together student leaders from various departments and faculties to address growing concerns within the student body.
According to the Union, about 150 student representatives were present at the meeting, which held from 2:10 PM to 5:40 PM. The session served as a platform for leaders to table specific issues affecting their constituencies. “This open forum allowed for an understanding of the diverse concerns present across our campus community,” the circular read.
The President of the Union, Covenant Odedele, used the opportunity to outline the Union’s current activities and initiatives. He also shared the Union’s strategy for engaging with the University Management on students’ behalf. Attendees were updated on recent developments across the university.
The meeting ended with three resolutions:
1. That the Union will compile and present all raised concerns and complaints to the University Management for swift attention and action.
2. That all Departmental and Faculty Presidents in constituencies with fee discrepancies should collate and submit a detailed breakdown of the school fees paid by their students. “This data is crucial for our engagement with the management,” the statement said.
3. That, depending on the outcome of ongoing consultations with the University Management, a Congress may be convened on or before Saturday, May 10.
In closing, the Students’ Union expressed appreciation for the commitment of the student leaders. “Your contributions are invaluable as we collectively work towards addressing the challenges facing our student community,” the Union stated.
