UIMSA, IFUMSA Host Mental Health Space

The University of Ibadan Medical Students’ Association and the Obafemi Awolowo University Medical Students’ Association (IFUMSA) hosted an X Space on Sunday, the 26th of June, 2024, in commemoration of the Mental Health Awareness Month.

The Space, which was tagged, “Mental Health Challenges and Coping Strategies in Medical School”, began by 5:15 PM. It was moderated by UIMSA’s Vice President, Abu-Idris Meliat, and IFUMSA’s Welfare Secretary, Afeez Oladimeji.

Over the course of two hours, topics such as dealing with depression in medical school, stressors, heartbreak and others, were discussed by hosts and participants from both Associations. At its peak, there was a listenership of 50.

Speaking with the Press, the Vice President had this to say, “It was an absolutely pleasant experience hosting this Space alongside Afeez, the Welfare Director of IFUMSA. It’s important to talk about our mental health and the Space was done in order to facilitate a safe space for medical students. I’m glad that we collaborated with IFUMSA on this event.”

The Space concluded at exactly 7:28pm.
