USA Commences Bye-Elections Proceedings for Three Vacant Offices

The sale of forms for bye-elections into the offices of the Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and Special Duties Officer of the UCH Students’ Association (USA) has commenced following an announcement made by the USA Electoral Commission yesterday, January 16th, 2025. 

According to the announcement, all three forms are to be sold for 2,000 Naira, with the deadline set for Monday, 20th January, 2025. 

This announcement follows the swearing-in of the 14th Executive Council as well as the Election of the Principal Officers (Hon. Omotunde Grace of the National Association of Nigerian Student Nurses and Midwives (NANSNM) as Chief Whip, Hon. Ibekwe Laurette of the Association of Physiotherapy Students (APS) as Clerk, and Hon.  Akosile Favour and Hon. Michael Orji, both from NANSNM, as Deputy Speaker and Speaker, respectively) of the 12th Assembly of the USA Students’ Representative Council which took place on Saturday, 11th January 2025. With the introduction of the new Assembly, Subsection 5 of Section 37 Article XIII Chapter 6 of the Reviewed USA Constitution, which states that “In case of vacant office, the electoral commission shall publicize the vacant offices and interested aspirant names be forwarded to the SRC for bye-election”, can now be implemented accordingly.
